Vehicle Road Speed Legislation Change
There are new laws coming into force as of 1st January 2008 regarding speed limitation of goods vehicles.
Any Goods Vehicle with a GVW between 3501kg and 7500kg which has been registered on or after 1st January 05 will be required by law to have a speed limiter fitted. As of 1st January 08 all vehicles in this category must have the limiter fitted and the speed capped at 90kph. This latest legislation will bring all goods vehicles with a GVW under 12000kgs into line.
The new laws also extend to passenger vehicles. Any vehicle with the capacity to carry more than 8 passengers and with a GVW not exceeding 5000kgs which has been registered on or after 1st January 05 must also be fitted with a speed limiter by law. The maximum speed must be set to not exceed 100kph. This law also comes into effect as of 1st January 08.
