As one of the main sponsors of a charity 10K race in Sheffield, Sherwood help raise money for a fantastic cause and promote sport in
South Yorkshire
Sherwood Truck and Van joined over 1550 runners on Sunday 5th April to raise funds for Sheffield Children's Hospital at the picturesque
Rother
Valley
Country
Park . Theo's 10K race, named after Theo Bear, the mascot of the children's hospital, was a huge success and a total of £60,000 was raised.
The hospital provides specialist care from birth to 16 years of age, primarily for patients in the
North Trent region. The charity hope to raise a total of £1m this year to help pay for new medical equipment, scanners and invest in medical research, so this contribution is a huge boost. The winner was Martin Formstone, who crossed the line in an impressive time of 32 minutes and 24 seconds. Sherwood's very own Sales Director, Mike Lancaster, and his wife Lorna also ran the race in 56 minutes and three seconds. Mike was also on hand to proudly show runners and spectators two brand new Eurocargo's and a new Daily van, both on display at the event.
For younger athletes, Dan's 3k Fun Run was held, named in memory of Daniel Grice, a young leukaemia patient at the hospital, who sadly died in the summer of 2008. Dan was an inspiration to many and he raised over £8,000 for the children's hospital whilst fighting the disease.
Continuing their support of local sporting events, Sherwood are also sponsoring the Festival of Athletics at the Don Valley Stadium,
Sheffield on the 19th April. Famous faces for the future will be there, including Jessica Innis, an Olympic hopeful for 2012 and spectators can enjoy a full day of athletics events, both on the track and field.
